From coffee gelato and quirky shops to smiling locals, caravanning at the showgrounds and sweet treats galore, discover why Berry NSW became one of our favourite Aussie villages.

Australia is jam packed with wonderful places to visit. It may be a huge country, but that doesn’t stop places developing a sense of ‘it’s lovely to see you and have you stay with us’.
On a trip we did in early 2026, we made our way to Berry in NSW. It’s not big, it’s not on a river, it’s not famous for festivals and late night events. It’s an historic little village, with a great ice cream shop, amongst others.
When we went there, we set up our Caravan in the Showgrounds. They were well maintained, clean, easy to enjoy and relax in and within walking distance of Berry.
On the walk into Berry I saw a decorated footpath! I mean how often do you see that! I did wonder what it was and was very impressed when I found out it was leading to the Berry School of Arts. Why not show off the local talent so everyone can see it!
On the other side of the road is a lovely family – if you like ducks. I do, so went to see them. So lovely and patient. They just stood there like statues until I had taken enough photos of them.

There was just one problem with our first day there. I hadn’t had a morning coffee. I don’t drink coffee all day, but I need to start my day with one. So, as soon as we got into the town, we turned right and the ice cream shop was on the corner. I got a Coffee Gelato and Peter got a Licorice one. Well worth the wait for the Coffee Gelato. I woke up and the rest of the Berry Day was brilliant.
There’s another side of Berry that I really liked and that was the shops. They have so many great shops there. It was really hard to decide what to buy. I was looking for a pair of summer weight trousers, but ended up with the most amazing green top. Not only was it great but all the shops had a reduced rack, and this was on it.

There are plenty of things to do and see, walking up and down the main street is good. People in Berry just seem to smile all the time. That’s my kind of village.
We did take a trip to a very special place – The Treat Factory. When you go there, you need to allow plenty of time to see it. The Treat Factory is full of so many treats, all sorts of chocolate, snacks, sweets, and the biggest Sparkles I have ever seen.
There’s a café there too if you want to take advantage of some super coffee.
I have lived in my village for over 30 years, and Berry is the only place we have visited in our 20 plus years of caravanning that could get me to think of moving to it. There’s just something so special about the atmosphere, the smiling locals and the Treat Factory.
While we were driving around we followed some signs to a waterfall, but didn’t find it.
We saw signs to Cambewarra where there’s a lookout. First sight was the communications tower, it’s massive. The lookout was lovely, basically you can see all of Nowra in one place. We finished off that visit with a cold coffee which was delicious. Possibly not good for anyone on a diet as there was an amazing amount of cream in it!!!!
Our visit to Berry was made even more special when we had a farewell coffee with our friends Kevin and Belinda who live nearby. You might know him better as Kevin Sullivan Music, a great singer with their kids the Sulli Vans. Not only are they singers and entertainers but they are caravanners too.
If you are travelling through New South Wales be sure to put Berry on the itinerary for a stay, or even just a coffee!
